Fall 2022
Here is some pics from fall 2022 (when I first came to Japan)
KURE IRIFUNE PARK
A quiet local park with a hilltop view of Kure’s naval dockyards. Early mornings here are peaceful, with cicadas buzzing and the sounds of the port below.
TOKYO TOKYO TOWER
The iconic red tower overlooking the capital. I went up just before sunset and caught the city turning gold. Busy, but worth it once.
HIROSHIMA PEACE PARK
Somber and quiet. I walked this alone the first week I arrived. The dome, the river, the bells — it all leaves an impression that lingers.
KURE PORT TOWER
A good place to just stand and look out across the water. Shipyards, cranes, the Seto sea — the industrial beauty of Kure in full view.
TOKYO SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE
Chaotic, bright, and alive. I didn’t think I’d like it but it had an energy that pulled me in. Sat above the crossing and just watched people flow.
KURE MOUNT YASUMIYAMA
A steep climb, but quiet at the top. You can see the full shape of the harbor from here. I brought coffee in a thermos and just sat for an hour.
HIROSHIMA MIYAJIMA ISLAND
The torii gate in the sea was under construction but I went anyway. The island’s still calm and beautiful. Fed deer crackers. Climbed the hill.
KURE YAMATO MUSEUM
A museum that feels quiet and heavy. The model of the ship is huge. I liked reading the crew letters most. Powerful place.
TOKYO MEIJI SHRINE
Surprisingly peaceful for being in Harajuku. I didn’t expect to feel calm in Tokyo but that walk through the trees to the shrine reset me.
KURE CENTRAL ARCADE
The main street downtown. Half shuttered, half alive. I come here when I want to walk with no goal. Retro games, bakeries, lights on at dusk.
